Mr R.M.Williams made his first pair of elastic sided riding boots in the early 1930’s with the help of a gifted leather crafter and saddler known as Dollar Mick. Together they developed a design that catered for the practical need of the Australian mounted stockman. The uppers, made from one piece of leather, became the standard for all of the elastic sided boots the Company has ever made and will continue to make. Designed for bushmen (whose working lifetime was mostly spent in the saddle), the one piece upper with the single out of the way seam at the back, avoided discomfort from side seams being continually rubbed against the stirrup irons. This also eliminated the wearing through of the thread on these seams. The high heels were (and still are) a safety device which prevented the boot sliding through the stirrup if the rider was thrown by the horse when he could be dragged as a consequence.
